With its small size, it is the first Cadiz beach in the Mediterranean. Between the access road to Isla de la Palomas and the port's jetty, this small area of sand is considered the traditional beach of the inhabitants of Tarifa; it even has its own association "Friends of the Playa Chica". In front of its shore, at the foot of the castle a small strip of sand houses some bathers who can enjoy one of the seabeds with the greatest species diversity in the province.

Playa Chica beach is the starting point for all the people who begin the crossing of the Strait of Gibraltar.
