TOWN CENTRE DECLARED A HISTORIC SITE

The Roman Hippa or Hippo Nova with Arab roots is situated at the foot of a cliff crowned by its impressive castle. Declared a Historic Site, its urban centre presents an exquisite blend of Andalusian heritage, popular architecture and monumental beauty, with its stately palatial façades.

The quarter of La Villa is located on what was the primitive quarter of the old town. In its labyrinthine layout, punctuated by walls, we find the archpriestly church of Nuestra Señora de la Encarnación and the castle, a 12th century Muslim fortress that still preserves walls, towers and the keep. On the outskirts we find the sanctuary of Nuestra Señora de los Remedios and the convent of Caños Santos.

A visit to the museum "Olvera. La Frontera y los Castillos" museum, located in the magnificent building of the Casa de la Cilla, will allow the visitor to learn about the important role played by the Cadiz mountains as a frontier in the Nasrid kingdom.
