THE PALMONES RIVER

Formed by deposits of fine white sand from the Palmones river, the beach spreads out in front of the El Rinconcillo neighbourhood, which lends the beach its name. A promenade with hotels and restaurants is behind this stretch of beach. In the northwest corner, an arrow of sand accompanies the mouth of the river and leads to the natural landscape of the Palmones river Marshes. Submerged throughout the year, the Virgen de Nuestra Señora de La Palma, is recovered every August 15 from the bottom of the bay. During the holiday, it is shown to Algeciras residents and tourists. When night comes, the party ends with fireworks and the patron saint returns to the sea.
